We are investigating the how to protect financial institutions from cognitive and social hacking. While traditional cybersecurity focus on protecting hardware and software, social and cognitive cybersecurity focus on protecting society from information warfare campaigns conducted to destabilize an organization. Examples of cognitive/social hacking are the Cambridge Analytica influence campaign targeting the 2016 US elections, and the practice known as “phishing”, were people are deceived into voluntarily providing their bank accounts passwords and credit card numbers.
